Let’s Have a Coffee Date (Vol. 5)

Happy Monday, friends! It’s been a crazy few days around here, so I thought I would start this week with a coffee date.

If we were having coffee, I would mostly likely have a passion fruit tea lemonade. I’ve started making them at home lately, and they're pretty much all I want. Passion fruit tea lemonade is one of my favorite summer drinks, and it definitely feels like summer around here, so I’m craving it.

Speaking of the weather, I think Texas forgot about spring. It’s in the 80s most days, which is just crazy. The only way I know it’s spring is how much more rain we’ve gotten lately.

I mentioned in my last coffee date I was super stressed about the possibility of a rent increase and having to move. We weren’t supposed to find out about it until the end of April, but we received an e-mail from our complex this weekend offering us another year at our current rate! It was a huge relief, but after talking it over, we decided to move to another apartment in the same complex. It’s 300 more square feet than our current place without a significant rent increase, so it made sense. The crazy part is we went from maybe moving at the end of June to moving at the end of April (!!), so I’m pretty stressed about getting everything done. There is a lot going on right now, and with Chris being on several hard rotations in a row, it’s a little overwhelming. Part of me really wants to stay in our current apartment and avoid all the hassle, but I know once it’s over, we will be much happier with our new place.

If we were having coffee, I would probably be random and ask you if you’ve tried cotton candy grapes. It’s crazy how much they taste like cotton candy. Chris and I really love them.

I would also tell you I’ve read one of the best books I’ve read in a while called One of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus. I’ll share more about it in my next book review, but I wanted those who have NetGalley to know because I think it’s still available!

Now that we’ve been to the mountains on our last two vacations, all I want to do is go to the beach! If we were having coffee, I would ask you where your favorite beach vacation has been because I need ideas! Since Chris can’t take any more time off until July, we are hoping to go on about a five-day trip for our Super Week celebrations this year (our birthdays and anniversary) at the end of July. I can’t decide if it will just be too miserably hot at the beach during that time. It can’t be as bad as Texas, right? Should we go to the West Coast beaches instead? I’d basically be happy anywhere with water, and my mind is all over the place! Haha.

Now it's your turn! What's going on in your life?

  1. oh my goodness - yay for the rent not going up haha but yay for also moving! that must be so stressful though, but like you said i'm sure it will be so worth it in the new place. that's a pretty big increase in size! i have never even heard of cotton candy grapes, let alone eaten one lol. no suggestions on beach vacations, haven't been on one in years! off to request that book from netgalley...

  2. Yay for the rent working out!! I was definitely feeling for you when I read that because it's just gotten crazy here! Yay for being able to increase space, too!! Moving in a month will be tough though!! West coast beaches will be nice!! You know I LOVE Half Moon Bay... but there's some beaches between LA/OC and San Diego that are fantastic and not quite as expensive as the big cities. There's a Sheraton resort down that way near Carlsbad. You might also look north at Ventura (45 drive to Santa Barbara) or SB, though traditionally SB is more expensive.

  3. I've heard of cotton candy grapes but I haven't tried them. K doesn't like grapes so I never think to buy any! Congrats on the bigger apartment! You'll be much happier once you're all moved in :)
We just recently changed our vacation plans and now I don't know what we're doing. Is plan is for Oct. so I still have time, but we were going to go to Disney and now we're not. So I need to plan a new trip. *sigh*

  4. whew! good luck moving! we moved within in the same apartment complex once and I thought it would be so easy--but it turned out to be our hardest move! we thought it would be so easy to just carry everything but it took forever, haha. I think the west coast in the summer is AMAZING and not so hot, especially if you go to northern California or Oregon :).

  5. I feel for you with the stress of moving... it's never fun and such a hassle--but that extra 300 square feet will be worth it! Luckily it is the same apartment complex, so if it REALLY comes down to it you can just start grabbing clothes still on the hanger and walking them to the new spot. Wishing you the best of luck as you get started packing!

  6. So I just went and requested One Of Us Is Lying because if you normally like books then I know that I'll probably like them as well. That's so exciting that your apartment is keeping your rent the same, and even though moving is stressful, at least you'll be in a bigger place! And I'm exactly like you and wishing that we had some cooler spring like weather instead of jumping right into summer! Maybe we'll get another cold snap though, you never know!

  7. We did the same thing second year of med school where we moved to a bigger one in the same complex, and I don't regret it at all! Good for you guys!

  8. Oh I hate it when rent increases, so glad for you that yours did not and that you are moving into a bigger place! :) Good luck with everything, moving can be so stressful, I know!! We have had the strangest weather, but I think spring is here now. :) My favorite beach vacation... I've only had 2, and both were really nice. I liked a Florida Gulf coast trip we took. We stayed in Clearwater Beach and went to lots of small towns. It was super cute, the beach was great in Clearwater. Last summer while we were in Savannah we went to Tybee Island. That was my favorite so far I think. It was super cute! + Savannah is 30 min away and was fun too! I highly recommend either, and have posts on both trips on the blog if you need photo evidence! 11. Congrats on getting the new "upgraded" apartment. Moving is always stressful but hopefully you guys can figure it out in the time crunch. The cotton candy grapes sound delish. I will be on the hunt for them when I go grocery shopping this weekend.

  12. Seriously those cotton candy grapes! The first time someone gave me one they wouldn't tell me what was so special about it & then I ate it & was like "what is happening?! I love it!" Yay for your rent not going up...even though you've decided to upgrade anyway. That's exciting! I hope the move goes well & isn't too stressful!

  13. That's great news about no increase, and yay for 300 more square feet! And I hear ya on needing a beach vacation! Our favorite spot is Punta Cana. We usually like to see new places, but have been back twice now. Most beautiful beaches, water, and resorts with all inclusive packages which means everything is all set once you get there and you don't have to pay for every drink and meal. Plus the service and staff at the resorts are phenomenal! <3

  14. Oh wow! Hooray for moving! I hope all of that goes smoothly for you guys!

And girl, we go to Destin every August and loooove it. It's crazy hot in Memphis at that time of year, but Destin is so nice. It's less humid, has a great breeze, and the water is perfect! We also really love Cozumel if you are thinking of cruising! :)

  15. So happy to hear your rent didn't increase and you were able to move to a bigger spot, I'm sure that's a huge relief, once you get over the stress of having to move sooner than you had planned. One Of Us Is Lying is on my tbr list, but I don't think I looked for it on Netgalley so thank you for mentioning that! I've never heard of cotton candy grapes, though I recently heard of sour patch grapes, so I'm wondering if it's something similar?

  16. Oh wow what a sudden change in plans with you guys moving this month! That's always stressful, but at least you're not going far.
