Let’s Have a Coffee Date (Vol. 6)

Hey, friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I’ve enjoyed doing coffee date posts more often lately. It’s such a fun way to update y’all on life! I hope y’all like it as much as I do. Now that it’s spring, I am all about iced drinks! Give me all the iced white mochas and passion fruit tea lemonades, please.

If we were having coffee…

I would tell you I am so stressed out about moving on Saturday. Usually I know we are moving way ahead of time, so this move feels like it snuck up on me. I know it’ll all be worth it once we move, but right now it doesn’t sound super appealing.

I would tell you we got Chris’s schedule for his next year of residency (which starts in July), and I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. He works 18 weeks of nights, and about half the weekends in the year. I have never been more grateful to match close to family. The silver lining is he magically got both Thanksgiving and Christmas off (His big holidays to work this year are Fourth of July, Labor Day, New Year’s Day, and Easter). Chris told me it means next year will be rough for holidays, but I am choosing to enjoy what we got this year.

I would share I am having the hardest time trying to figure out where to go for our birthdays and anniversary this year. I have a feeling I will be desperate to get out of the heat, so I’m focusing on places cooler than here. It’s hot pretty much everywhere at the end of July, though, so we’ll see! Usually, I’m good at deciding on a vacation spot, but this time, I’m just feeling stuck. Maybe I’ll have better luck once the stress of moving is behind us.

I would probably say that even though we are busy with moving, Chris and I are still trying to make the most of the last few weekends he doesn’t work. He’s working 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. most days right now, so we usually need a date night by the time weekends come along. Last night we went out for sunset fajitas (fajitas smothered in queso and fried onions) for the first time in months, and it was the best.

Basically all I want to eat these days for snacks is berries. I just love berry season because of how fresh everything tastes. Raspberries are my favorite, but I will eat pretty much any berry.

After months of being hot and cold with reading, I have been on a roll lately. I just finished Close Enough to Touch by Colleen Oakley, and I would definitely recommend it!

Now it's your turn! What's going on in your life?

  1. Good luck with your move, friend! I'm so sorry about that schedule. That sucks. It sounds like you're having a good attitude about it, though! I feel the same way towards chris' pgy2 schedule. RIDICULOUS. I'm going to try to plan lots of trips for me and Jack because it's going to be brutal.

  3. Oh that work schedule sounds tough, but yay for Chris getting off Thanksgiving and Christmas! And good luck with the move. I totally get dreading moving, but you will be so happy once it's over. Berries are so good this time of year! Just a delicious and healthy snack.

  4. That's great news about his holiday schedule for next year. At least you are able to plan that way. :) I'm so sorry about moving, I just hate it myself, but you'll get through it and you'll be happy once it's done I'm sure! I am loving the berries too. At my SIL's shower over the weekend they had this lovely salad with strawberries and I couldn't get enough of it! Hmmm maybe you should go up north? Perhaps to Oregon or Washington? Alaska is LOVELY in the summer, but a bit pricer to get to and to tour. We loved being there in July! I think the cruises from Seattle (or vancouver) to Alaska would be great. I bet Vancouver and Victoria are lovely in the summer! We visited Victoria in the fall and LOOOOVED it. Maybe also the very upper part of the great lakes or into canada? We took a cruise to the maritimes from Boston and LOVED the region. Those might be some cooler places! Good luck with your planning! XO - Alexandra

  5. Oh that work schedule is tough but I'm glad he got some major holidays off!!! Raspberries are my favourite too. I second Alexandra's thoughts and highly recommend you come to Canada for vacation! It's definitely a bit cooler :) How fun to think about some different places though!! I hope your move goes well!!

  6. Eat all the berries! They are so good this year!
Ugh, I feel you on moving. That sounds so not fun. I hope it goes well.
I will recommend Roanoke again for a trip! Drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, visit the Old Country Store in Floyd on a Friday night for the live bluegrass, enjoy the Roanoke Valley as the leaves change colors...just saying! Also, if we're back there by then we'd be happy to host you =)

  7. Moving has seriously got to be the most stressful thing ever! My parents just went through it and I know that they're ready to just sit back and relax, except that they have to unpack stuff. And hooray for Chris at least having Christmas and Thanksgiving off! It's always tough when your husband has to be gone during the holidays, but the good news is that it can't last forever!

  8. I hope everything goes smoothly with your move. Moving is one of my least favorite things so I can relate with being stressed out. I give you so much credit for making the best out of your schedules. Those sound like really hard hours to deal with. I'm sure the times you both get some down time must feel amazing.

  10. Oh girl, I'm so sorry about his upcoming schedule. I know this has to be so stressful (especially with moving so close on the horizon). I'm glad that he got Thanksgiving and Christmas off, though! Love that you are focusing on the blessings even in the busy-ness!

  11. 18 weeks of nights, that's rough. I know y'all will treasure the time off he does have. In my family, we tend to postpone holidays to where we can all enjoy it together since some of us are in career fields that are never closed on holidays. I can relate! Are you looking to travel for your anniversary?

  12. I'm so sorry about Chris' schedule, but glad you're close to family for those rough nights and weekends. But YAY for Thanksgiving and Christmas, that's huge! Can't wait to hear where you guys decide to go for your anniversary <3

  14. Good luck with your move! It's always stressful and is a lot of work but it will be good when you're all settled in. Chris' schedule sounds crazy but at least you know when you'll be able to plan future trips!

  15. Moving is the worst stress but will be so worth it once your settled in! Sounds like a crazy schedule, but at least you have Thanksgiving and Christmas, those would be the most important to me! I can't decide on a vacation spot either for this summer...I'm thinking Jamaica or DR...but I can't decide on anything!

  16. Moving is so stressful! I know you'll be glad when it's over. As for the end of July.... if you don't hit up northern California (yay cooler weather!), I would suggest the Dove Mountain Ritz Carlton property... here's why: 1) rates are ridiculously cheap in the summer. We're talking $120/night. It's DRY desert heat (totally different than Dallas/Chicago)... so it's really cool in the morning (for adventures!), you can swim in the afternoon (water slides!), and then it cools down in the evenings. We did the 4th of July out there two years ago and I LOVED it. It was so low-key and relaxing... and the 100 degree heat wasn't stifling like it is in Dallas. :) There's not much to do either so you guys can just take it easy and enjoy each other. We flew into Phoenix (also cheap in July LOL) and drove down there.

  17. Good luck with the move Olya! I feel you with the rough schedules. Mando moves to overnights soon, and we already barely see each other. If you ever need someone to chat with to pass the time, let me know! I'm in the same boat. :)

    Also, those fajitas sound AMAZING.
