We spent the morning and early afternoon driving all over the area exploring waterfalls (post to come!), so by the time we headed to Chimney Rock State Park, we were exhausted. I knew it was the only day we would be able to fit in the hike, so I was determined to make it happen.
Usually, there is an elevator that will take you to the top of Chimney Rock, but we knew it was broken (and it’s still broken to this day), so our only option was to climb over 500 steps to get to the overlook. I’m not going to lie: it wasn’t easy for me. There were a few times I wanted to quit because I just wasn’t sure how far I could push my body in one day. Thankfully, there are several lookouts on the way where you can rest and see plenty of gorgeous views.
The views at the top were worth every single step. Once you reach the rock, you are at 2,280 feet above sea level, so you get incredible panoramic views of Lake Lure and Hickory Nut Gorge. It’s truly breathtaking to see the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance while standing on a 535-million-year-old rock! I honestly could have sat there and enjoyed the view for hours.

Nature is so amazing! Awesome views :) 500 steps though? yikes lol
ReplyDeleteThose views are stunning and totally worth the strenuous hike up to the top! And that's so smart of them to have stops along the way with beautiful lookout points! It makes it easy to be able to stop and rest for a while!
ReplyDeleteThose views are amazing! You're giving me wanderlust all over again!
ReplyDeleteOh my GOSH these views!!
ReplyDeleteWOW!! That's incredible!! I'm sad that it's still broken though. :(
ReplyDeleteYou are just too cute (and strong- dang girl!). Was this in central NC? We're headed there soon for vaca. at the beach but I'm trying to think of some stuff to do that's not necessarily beach focused since we'll be there a while!
ReplyDeleteWow such incredible views! I'm not a huge hiker, so I like that there were options for driving and still finding gorgeous spots on days you didn't do this hike. I've been wanting to go to the Biltmore, but it's hard to justify going all the way to NC just to do that, but checking this out would be so cool too!
ReplyDeleteOhh I love Chimney Rock and the Blue Ridge in North Carolina is seriously my favorite place to vacation!
ReplyDeleteThose views are stunning! I need to make it out to North Carolina someday to explore all that it has to offer..
ReplyDeleteThose views are amazing! When we visited NC we went to something somewhat similar and now I am driving myself crazy because I can't remember the name of it :/ Beautifully Candid
ReplyDeleteThis is such a gorgeous location! I have yet to get out to the smokies, but I really want to someday sooN! Have you noticed there are a ton of chimney rocks? We've been to one in New Mexico! :) XO - Alexandra
