Happy Sixth Birthday Skyler: Fun Facts About Our Pup

Today, Skyler turns six. That’s such a crazy sentence for me to type. We’ve had her since she was a puppy, so it’s hard to believe my sweet pup is already six. Last year, I wrote a whole post filled with facts about her, but in honor of her birthday, I thought I would include a few more.

I think it’s funny she was born on International Women’s Day because that really fits her personality. She’s such a sassy (but super sweet) little lady.

Her favorite foods are a toss up between peas and applesauce. We don’t give her a lot of human food, but she does get some fruits and veggies.

We love taking her to my in-laws’ house because they have a large backyard, and she gets to run around as much as she wants. Her favorite is when we chase her.

She loves the sun. If there is a sun spot in the house, I know exactly where to find her. She also loves the wind. If we’re walking outside, and it’s windy, she’ll randomly stop and enjoy the wind going through her fur.

I know everyone thinks their dog is smart, but Sky really surprises me sometimes. The most hilarious thing she has figured out is that when I go to put on pants, it means she’s going outside. I work from home and Chris takes her out when he leaves in the morning, so I usually put on pants for the first time in the morning to take her out.

She absolutely loves the snow. When we were living in Chicago, she would get super excited whenever there was snow on the ground and would spend forever running around in it.

All the snow we got in Texas this year.
She loves her crate. We rarely make her go in it anymore, but I will randomly find her sleeping in it throughout the day.

I love this one because it looks like she took a selfie!
Happy sixth birthday, Sky Sky! We love you so much!

The Dog Behind the Blog: Get to Know Skyler

I was talking to a blogger friend recently and when Skyler came up, she told me she had no idea I had a dog. I mostly just talk about her in my Friday Favorites posts, so today I wanted to share more about my favorite pup.

She’s a corgi mix. We have no idea what she’s mixed with, but our guesses are border collie, collie, or dachshund. We’ve heard all kinds of funny suggestions, but my favorite is when people tell me she’s part fox. Christopher and I joke that we need to start a collection fund in our building for a DNA test because we get asked what kind of dog she is at least three times a day.

We originally wanted her sister. We got her from a humane society that doesn’t have a physical building (they foster all their animals and host adoption events. We went to the adoption event to look at her sister, but her sister was extremely shy and traumatized, which Christopher and I thought could be hard for our first dog together. As we were walking by to leave, Skyler starting pawing at her cage. I asked to play with her and fell in love right away. After an application and a home visit, we got to pick her up on my 22nd birthday!

A photo of Skyler on the day we got her.
We named her Skyler because that was her name when we got her, and we liked it. We didn’t have a name in mind and thought it would be easier on Skyler since she already knew her name.

She is insanely soft. Once I even had someone ask me to collect her fur, so she could use it to make socks, which was honestly a little creepy.

She’s turning five in March, and I can’t believe we’ve had her for so long. She was four months old when we got her.

Skyler’s bark sounds like it’s coming from a massive dog. People are always shocked when they realize she’s the one barking.

She weighs about 18 pounds, but she’s super long. Her little body can take up a huge chunk of the bed.

She loves to run and is crazy fast. She loves having other dogs chase her at the dog park, but no one can ever catch her. I’ve even considered putting her in an agility class.

I have about a million nicknames for her, but the one I use the most is Sky Sky.

She is obsessed with blankets. If I leave the couch, I will come back to find her wrapped up in my blankets.

She has a big personality. She’s both sassy and super sweet. She is super protective of me and makes me laugh every day.

Now it’s your turn. Tell me about your furbabies.

Skyler Says: Natural Balance Dental Chews and Kong Squeezz Bone Toy

Hello there, Mama’s blog friends. It’s Sky Sky the Princess, back to share more amazing treats from my friends at Chewy! Thank you, Chewy, for spoiling me (we all know I deserve it)!

Now, guys, I have a teensy-weensy problem now that I am a little older—Mama tells me my breath stinks sometimes. As a princess, I always need to look my best, so I am always up for fixing the problem. Sadly, most dental chews just don’t taste yummy! The Natural Balance Dental Chews Pumpkin & Chicken Meal Formula with Papaya Dog Treats are the best tasting dental chews I’ve ever tried.

They are the perfect size for me, and I love tossing them up in the air before I eat them. The best part is Mama says my breath smells great after I eat them. Mama told me she also loves that it reduces plaque and tartar. That means I can have the whole bag, right Mama?

After snack time, Mama gave me a fun bone! I loved the Kong Squeezz Bone Dog Toy right away. It has a great squeaker, and Mama told me to tell you she thinks it’s a durable toy for dogs that like to chew.

It’s time for me to head to the dog park, but first I want to thank Chewy again for these great treats!

Skyler Says: Blue Buffalo Wilderness Treats & JW Rhino Chew Toy Review

Hey there, Mama’s blog friends! Skyler here, also known as Sky Sky, but I prefer for everyone to call me Princess. Mama has been asking me to write a guest post for her for a while, but none of her ideas struck my fancy. Then the nice people at Chewy.com asked her if I would review TREATS…and a doggie just can’t say no to that, you know?

Now guys, these Blue Buffalo Wilderness Trail Treats DuckBiscuits were really something. Mama had never given me duck before, and I firmly believe she was holding out on me. I am happy to sit, get down, and even leave it…as long as I get my paws on that tasty biscuit as soon as possible. I liked it so much I kept going back to the spot I got it, just in case I had missed any leftover crumbs. Now every time I see the package, I get really excited. I vote that Mama should give me this treat at least 10 times a day. Can you guys help me in convincing her?
After having a tasty biscuit or ten, a pup has got to play. I was beyond excited when I saw Mama pull out a squeaky rhino toy. The JW Pet Rhino Chew Toy was so much fun! I loved pouncing on it and throwing it up in the air with my nose. The pesky thing was a little too big for me, so it kept trying to run away. No worries, though, I managed to tame it. Then, I carried it to my favorite chair, so I could keep an eye on it. It hasn’t caused any trouble since.
Anyways, I’ve been awake much too long and better hand the blog back over to Mama, so I can take a nap! I can’t wait to be back soon to share about more tasty treats with you, as long as you don’t expect me to share any of the actual treat!
